Take Time Out, Productively

It’s officially the silly season for most businesses. It’s great to get those sales targets in and make some money.

Breaks are essential

We can be extremely productive during this time but keeping this level of silliness can be counterproductive. Stress and overload can manifest into bigger problems if left to go unchecked.

During this time make sure to build in some micro breaks, block out some time out for yourself, a mental break to recharge those batteries. Might just be going for a walk, to watch that Netflix movie, or a coffee on you own to chill.

When we are busy focused on the doing we tend not to be ‘working on the business’. The later is the is more important to be truly productive. Don’t mix up being busy with being productive, they are different things, often being busy means, we lose productivity. Being truly productive means focusing on the how and why. Can we improve the process, be more efficient with resources or add new products.

Having a decent break away from business is a great way to let the creative ideas flow, think big picture stuff and think outside the box. Usually my best ideas come when I’m out of the office.

Take a break - Grab a note book

When you having a break and a great idea comes along don’t let it get away, jot it down in a note book or note pad in your phone. That way you can get on and enjoy your activities while on a break without having the completely work the idea through.

When you have time come back to your notes and thrash the idea out, develop the concepts and maybe do a little research.

Plan for the year ahead

The new year is a great time to start thinking about your business vision, strategy and plans. Schedule some time to work on your new ideas then feed them into the planning process. Start with revising or creating a Vision for your business, paint a picture of your BIG PLAN, keep it short and visionary. Then work on your Purpose and Core values. With these principles in mind develop the strategies for the year and finally a business plan and budget.
